In Lake Charles, LA, there are plenty of annual events to look forward to. Some of these important and fun events are listed here.
Contraband Days
Usually held every year on may. The festivals are for celebrating the legend of Jean Lafitte who was a pirate. During the first night canon fire is witnessed which symbolizes defending of the sea wall by the residents of Lake Charles. Pirates come to this event to join the festivities that lasts up to two weeks. Music, games, carnival rides and entertainments mark this event. The event is terminated by a display of spectacular fireworks.
Cajun Festivals
A total of six events comprises the Cajun Festivals. The first event is the Fur and wildlife festival in January. This event is done to highlight all natural resource industries that are available locally. It is marked by dances, pageants, exhibits, Cajun music and parades. Also, there are special contest like nutria, trap setting, muskrat skinning, skeet shooting and oyster shucking.
Cajun Food and Music Festival
This is the second event of the Cajun festivals and takes place in the month of July. Event highlights include raffles, kids’ games and raffle prizes. Cajun sounds are also evident during this event.
Marshland Festival
This is the third event marking a Cajun festival and takes place in July. The event is done so as to support the community and especially children through charitable organizations. The event is marked by business expos, music, activities for kids and the sale of arts and crafts.
Arts and Crab Festivals
The event takes place in august and it’s done to stress the advantages of investing using locally available products like, music, local seafood, art and restaurants. It’s done so as to attract tourists to this area.
St. Theresa’s Bon Ton Event
It’s one of the events of Cajun festivals that are done in the month of September. It’s popular for its music, food, rides and large areas where people can dance and visit or eat while there. It’s a family friendly event.
Calca-chew Food Festival
The event is held in the month of September where a lot of eating, singing and dancing are done. The festival is done to celebrate the Cajun heritage and no alcohol is allowed. Auctions and live entertainments are done during this event
Cajun Christmas
Residents of Lake Charles welcome the Christmas day by performing this event. Different theatre companies perform during this event. Christmas parades are conducted all over the surrounding communities’ example the Lakefront boat parade.
The Mardi Gras Event
This festival is marked by events like the Royal Gala, Twelfth Night evening and the Krewes Parade. The atmosphere during this event is very pleasant and everybody enjoys it as it gives that family-friendly feel. A day is dedicated to family and children activities and people go to the streets in large numbers to view parades marching through the streets. This event take place on January.
